Adaptive Instructor
Instruction Description
Perform student assessment to identify the adaptive equipment needs, assist student in using the equipment and teach the student (new or experienced) to ski or snowboard.
Qualifications
- Intermediate skier or rider
- Minimum age of 18
- Experience with teaching snow sports preferred, but not required
- Desire and/or previous experience working with people with disabilities
Training Requirements
- Adaptive specific training — classroom session on November 12, 2011 at Liberty Mountain Resort (Children's Learning Center) from 8:30am–4:00pm. On-Snow training in early January 2012 (Jan. 6–7 and Jan. 14–15) at Liberty Mountain Resort.
- General snow sports teaching — if you have no previous experience, you should plan to attend the Liberty Instructor Training Clinics. Classroom session is on December 3, 2011 and the On-Snow clinics are scheduled for December 10–11, 2011. Contact Cathy Hoffman at Liberty Mountain Resort (717-642-8282, ext. 3399 or e-mail). The cost is $50.
- Apprentice — after completing the required training sessions, you will apprentice with an experienced instructor before teaching lessons independently.
Time Commitment
After completing the training, you will need to volunteer for a minimum of 12 weekend days during the season.
